General Discussion / Thursday,9/5...Murals Under Seige
« Last post by on October 03, 2017, 10:06:03 AM »
Since this Thursday's hike has been cancelled, I've been thinking of taking a goldline trip to Union Station to view Barbara Carrasco's mural and then (across the street) view "Murals Under Seige" at  the Plaze de Cultura y Artes.

The Museum opens at noon, is free.  So if you're interested, we'll need to meet up around 10am.

Let me know!

General Discussion / Safety Meeting and pot luck
« Last post by on September 21, 2017, 10:18:14 AM »
Come join us for a safety meeting and pot luck.

In recent news, we learned of hikers who have become hurt, lost or even died on the trail.  A meeting to discuss ways to be safe when on the trail would help us all!

October 17 (Tuesday), 5 pm at the Community Center in LaVerne (next to the Library, behind City Hall.)

Program:  A short pot luck, presentation and discussion.

5pm to 8pm.

On Monday 9/25, join me and Virginia Chen at Tsurumatsu Udon for a bowl of noodles at a charming Japanese eatery.  11:30 at the JC Penny parking lot, Santa Anita Mall (Westfield), 400 S. Baldwin (near the Arboretum.)

Or catch me at Marshall Canyon to arrange a carpool!

(It's that cozy noodle stand just outside Din Tai Fung, next to Uncle Tetsuo's...)

The Trail Trekkers are going to a new destination for the group Feb. 5-9, 2018.  We will be viewing the Elephant Seals, the gorgeous coastline, the quaint nearby towns, the wineries in the area, and the Firestone Brewery.  Hearst Castle is a nearby attraction, well worth a visit. For campers, we will be staying at the San Simeon State Park, at the Washburn campsites.  Reservations can be made at  Non site-specific reservations only.  If you are seeking lodging, Cambria and Moonstone Beach are two nearby coastal towns.
If you plan on attending, please email me at  Send any inquiries to the same.
General Discussion / Saturday hikes, 9/23 and 9/30

Since the weather is still warmish, we'll head for DTLA and then Barrett-Stoddard.
Sat. 9/23, goldline trip to MOCA on Grand.
Regular  admission is $l5 or $10 for seniors but there is  a 2 for 1 price with our metro tap cards!  The exhibit is playful, humorous, even thought provoking.  And it doesn't seem to be anywhere near as crowded and uncomfortable as the Broad Museum across the street.
Coffee in Little Tokyo, one mile hike to MOCA on Grand, then lunch wherever we choose.
Meet 8 am at the BofA lot to carpool to Citrus Station.

Sat. 9/30.  MEET 7AM at the BofA lot to carpool to Barrett-Stoddard

Did you know that P.F. Chang's restaurants were among the sponsors of the Terra Cotta Warriors exhibit that visited southern California (Bowers Museum) in 2009?  It explains the warriors and horses that decorate the restaurant in Victoria Gardens.

Wanna check it out (and have lunch too)?

Wed., Sept. 13 (NEXT week).  Meet 11:30 at the BofA Lot to carpool.
